The Adventurous Chef!

Over the years there have been a few activities I have done that I call my adventures. Some are quite exciting like sky diving and the great whites in South Africa, and some are local adventures for me as in being an honoured guest at the local sand ground cricket match at Pandiyan, Chennai. So, a few of the photos here of what I have and there are some that I do not have yet, maybe still to be found in my photo albums waiting to scan in, like disappearing underground at the pyramids in Egypt. Some like being on the motorbike with a beautiful guide visiting Ha Noi, climbing the mountain staircase at Sigiriya in Sri Lanka, flying around the Himalayas in an ultra-light or running the New York marathon are just things you do, but I am so glad I have been able to travel for a good part of my life and experience these things and be able to call them my adventures! Now after the pandemic and the closing of air travel for a couple of years, the travel and adventure bug is not so strong any more but there are still a few places I would like to see like Manchu Pichu in Peru. I am lucky in that a lot of my visits around the world were to places before they really got crowded out with bulk tourist travels, like the trip to Romania while it was still under the communists, China before all the freeways went in and places that were just not fully developed at the time.

So, I thought that if I was going to showcase Chef Willi, then a part of me is where I go on these adventures! Some are on these pages under Chef Willi, but the travel photos are under www.nzkiwiana.com which is still being developed and loaded. You can imagine how many photos are waiting to load, as some countries I did some good comprehensive travel in. Anyway, over the years I have been bungee jumping, lifted off in hot air balloons, went into the Vietcong tunnels, under the pyramids, dove on Bali reefs plus Indonesia and a few other places, skydived over the Southern Alps, experienced the Fly by Jet and also the Jet boats on the Clutha in Queenstown. Add to that some half marathons, a little Grand Prix in Malaysia, some great whites in South Africa, safari touring in Kruger and finishing on the sand dunes in Oman. So, a little of this and some of that, enough to keep the blood moving and some excitement for the day. I like to try something new every year, and while it has not been possible during the pandemic, let us see how the next few years go! Maybe there is another half marathon in there yet, but first, we need to get our visa sorted for Malaysia and get ourselves stable for a few years. At least I am still in the gym keeping the fitness up, so who knows, maybe a half at 68 years old!
